XJ-S Fuel
pump leak
(40 minutes job)
One
morning I discovered a wide spot under the car. My trunk was full of fuel
odor too.
It was "only" my fuel pump leaking. About one tears per second. That's
a lot so it's easy to find.
On the right picture there is the pump: Low pressure gas comes from
the top. High pressure gas go down. The leak comes from bottom side (plastic
part once more !) where connectors are (!).
How to repair ?
Easy for once.
-
As soon as possible disconnect the battery.
-
Clamp the 2 fuel hoses
-
Remove the hose from the pump and the electrical wires
-
Remove the pump from the brackets ( 2 bolts only but bad access)
-
Clean a little bit the trunk and the soil (even if you do not live in Switzerland)
-
Let the the door open for a while (gas odor are good for headache).
-
Check you head capacity with the Game till level 3
!
-
Replace the pump and fit what you put out lines before .
In my case I didn't repair the pump because I found one in a junkyard for
free.
Any way it comes from an old xjs (pre 1978) so the pump has different
connections:
The outgoing gas hose is 90 degrees to axis and electrical wires are
on the top and must be bolted (than plugged).
On both pumps models, the + & - are visible.
Then the car worked fine.
