About my XJ-S 1980 pre-HE

Keys !

When I bought the car, I received 2 Keys: No key to close the doors and the boot ( I've been told it's the same)!

How I got the boot key:

First I have to take the lock out of the car not difficult in fact
  1. Open the boot
  2. Take out the bolts which are needed to carry the long bar and the lights holder.

  3. I spend a lot of time only because I didn't noticed that tow bolds are far from center badly situated to the left and right sides.
  4. Take out the lock  by unscrew two screws
  5. Disconect the linkage
  6.  !!!!!! Be careful about the fact that at this time it's easy to close the boot... but not to open it.

  7. I put somme wire to avoid the boot lock.
When you get the lock you can go to Jag dealer or send it to locksmith who is able to make a key.
Personally I went To:
"RAPID'clé "/ 6, ch du Repos /Case Postale 407 /1213 Petit-Lancy 1/ Switzerland".

Keys for : 1) Gloves 2) Gloves/Boot 3) BootI noticed that the blank key of the boot and the one of the gloves are the same ( the combination of curves is different).
Only one side of the key is important for locking

So I decided to make a special key with two different sides: One side open the cloves box and the other open the boot (one key for two different locks !).
....and it works !!
There is a cut in the Gloves/boot key which must be down to open up to close.

Is it an improvement: ?

Of course, now the car is lighter so I got better acceleration !

What think Palm Kirby about this ?

"Hence, your idea for making a single key with two different sides won't help me."

Bad story  from Roderick Cunningham
"I took the lock assembly apart and while it was apart it started to rain. My wife, thinking she was helping, shut the boot. Guess what - locked. I had to drill a hole behind the number plate so that I coul reach the toggle bar with needle nose pliers."
