XR-700 Crane
Cams ignition / Lucas opus
My lucas drove me crazy:
after a fire the Opus behave unfair: Cold start ok, then after 5 minutes,
not working anymore. I bought the XR-700 (very hard to get it), install
in one hour and it works !
How to set up ?
In the Crane kit you get
-
a pick-up : a fork with 2 LED's inside. one
make IR-light the other receive the light if nothing between the teeth
of the fork. It take the place of the Lukas pick-up

a wheel with 12 holes. You have to remove
the original (very hard because glued by time) one with ferrite's to set
up.

an electronic box and wires.
So you need to remove the original wheel in
the distributor and the pick-up and to disconnect the Lukas stuff first.
Then Crane electronic box must be wired
to the +12V of the resistor pack and to the ground (-), and to the
+ of the coil. ( There are labels on the wires)
and you need to plug the rest of wires
to the new pick-up witch is in the distributor.
To check the crane ignition you don't
need to to finish the setting:
Take a gold credit card and cut in 2 parts
then avoid light to link the end of the teeth of the forks, then
you must see brilliant light at the plug (it even make enough noise to
be heard !)
The 3 difficulties are:

To remove the wheel in the distributor like
a gentleman

To replace the pick-up correct in the distributor
(it's so little for fingers)

To control the 3000 RMP advance (one
need to be under the car, a friend reading the 3000 RMP)
It took me about 1 hour the first time
and less for a friend (AC Cobra replica with V12 Jaguar)
